Founded in 2011, Clare started Pilates Avatar with a mission to make Pilates accessible for all, releasing it from the exclusive enclaves it’s been known for.
Since then, we’ve sharpened our focus to serve those who are looking for a classical Pilates experience that remains authentic to its roots as designed by its founder Joseph Pilates — not the fitness-Pilates-fusion-mish-mash of whatever is trending.
Pilates benefits the mind, body, and spirit.
Your muscles and tendons will get a workout for sure, but Pilates also improves circulatory, digestive, and respiratory systems.
It’s good for memory, stress reduction, and improves mental focus.
Pilates also uplift the spirits, helping you to overcome mental and emotional doldrums.
Clare expertly guides you through your workout and if you have an injury, she offers suggestions to adapt the exercise until you are stronger.
Be sure to let her know at the beginning of a cllass if you are injured or are feeling any discomfort.
Be comfortable but not too baggy with your clothes.
Your spine, hip, knees and shoulders should be able to bee seen easily. Shoes are not needed.
First, if you follow the program like Joe Pilates recommends, and work Pilates in to your life 3-4x/week, you will be amazed at the results. You will have a new freedom in your body and a bounce to your step.
Second, do your best to remember specific corrections that you’ll get from Clare in our live classes.
Third, in the long term, continue to engage by learning exercise names, the order, apparatus changes (if that’s relevant), and the transitions.
Don’t worry — all of this will come naturally over time as long as you remain consistent — which is the most important thing. It’s a learning process and you will see improvement day by day.
